Thank You for Participating in Startip University!

As of April 1st, we have closed Startup University to new submissions while we review and report back on the results. We will be contacting all of those who registered to vote on ideas, submitted ideas or made comments with the results of this project. You can also check back after April 15th or subscribe to the SBA’s blog for updates.

Last year the Small Business Administration held a series of regional roundtables with accelerators and universities, and one of the major takeaways was that universities could use a dedicated forum to discuss best practices and build new connections between academia and startup entrepreneurs.

Based off this feedback, the SBA and Department of Commerce created Startup University as a forum for educators and entrepreneurs like you to vote, comment, add provide feedback, but we need your help!

      Outside the classroom, Babson students live entrepreneurship through the comprehensive John E. and Alice L. Butler Venture Accelerator Program which is the result of faculty and staff working together to define a framework that provides access to resources for student and alumni entrepreneurs to move their business ideas forward.         This bi-state (Missouri and Kansas) partnership of regional colleges, universities, community colleges, local businesses, and nonprofits seeks to discover and develop technology by pulling it out of the institutions and actively moving it along the development pathway. Through this program, students, faculty, and local community work to establish new business ventures, licensing opportunities, create jobs, and spur economic development through mentoring, job training, hands on learning opportunities, and access to capital funds. Through the collaborative effort, partnerships are expanded to form and encourage technology growth and business plan development for the local economy.

        • Texas State’s RampCorp

          Texas State’s RampCorp program works to improve economic opportunities for women entrepreneurs in Texas. Women entrepreneurs receive coaching from experienced investors, entrepreneurs, inventors, and business leaders to learn about resources and opportunities.               Developed in 2011 by Springworks and piloted at Haas/UC Berkeley, WE-Generation (WE-Gen) is a growing community of next generation women interested in entrepreneurship who actively work together to learn, support, and inspire.

                  Small business owners entrepreneurs are having difficulty in growing their businesses. I suggest a collaboration between Industry, Government and Universities to develop measurable programs with accountability in mind that can benefit all parties. Since everyone is saying small business is the engine of our economy, why not help them.

                    The Jon Brumley Texas Venture Labs houses the TVL Accelerator which partners graduate students from The University of Texas at Austin studying Business, Law, Engineering and the Sciences with start-ups to solve fundamental business problems.

                      Colleges do not teach the very pragmatic skill universally needed - how to sell. Why not?

                      That's not marketing BTW, that's going out and knowing how to use the sales process to acquire paying customers B2B, B2C. And no, retail is not the selling I am referring to. Its also knowing How to Acquire Paying Customers online w/o competition via target audience specific social media groups & discussions.

                                  The University of North Dakota Center for Innovation fosters hands on learning through Mueller Entrepreneur Internships (funding students to start a venture) and the Dakota Venture Group, the nation's first fully student run venture fund where the students need to source deals, screen, conduct due diligence, negotiate investment terms, syndicated with angel funds and other investors, close deals, manage portfolio, and arrange for exits.                                         The Vermont Center for Emerging Technologies (VCET) has made a Kickstarter for college students called Student Start. Student Start is a packaged crowdfunding platform used by universities and colleges to empower student entrepreneurs.
